Feel the fear and perform anyway…

VO Story of the Week:

Not a VO story per se, but a voice one none the less. I have been learning and  practicing songs with a piano player friend of mine for years now. Last fall we decided, with gentle pressure from our partners and friends to DO A SHOW ALREADY! So we did. Last weekend. And it was terrifying. It was in a big livingroom at a friends place and the first row was 3 feet away from me. They could literally smell my fear. I have never been so nervous in all my life. The first night (of two) it took me the entire first act to calm down and breathe. This was my first live performance (other than VO) in 12 years. I woke up most mornings leading up to the show with an alarm "WHY did I say yes to this?!?!" going off in my head. Ugh.

Listen, I love singing and it's one of my superpowers. I've been  mostly a closet singer for the majority of my life...too scared to put myself out there. Too scared to....what? Fail? Succeed? Be judged? All of the above?

Are you a closet performer? (Yes, yes, I know most of our booths are in the closet...lol) Is there something you secretly want to put out there in the world but you 'get in your own way? Myself, I've got a PhD in 'Gettin' in my own way.' Sigh.

But I broke through last week. And I'm super proud of myself. I want more so I'm gonna do it again....many more times. : ) People want to witness our talents. Don't be stingy with your superpowers, we've all got 'em and they are SHINY.

Jump on through Maniacs. Be afraid and do it anyway. It's sooo worth it. You're so worth it. ♥
